Freedom. Such a simple yet powerful word. A word that has formed countries and shaped lives. A word that has been the motivation for revolution. A word whose very existence has kept people in power. But freedom is more than just a word, its an ideology. An ideology that was the basis for the country that I live in. A country (and as corny as it sounds) I love. You see I am a firm believer in freedom. I don’t believe that the government has the right to tell us how to live.
Over the course of the last decade or so our government has been slowly eroding those freedoms that we take for granted. The very freedoms I dare say that this country was based on. Not only are our freedoms being taken but we are being told how to live our lives. We are being legislated into slavery. Wait did he just say slavery? Yes I did. You see as we continue to enact more legislation under the veil of protection or safety we give the government more power over our daily lives. Pretty soon it will get to the point where the law will tell us what when and how we do things.

“The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.” -Thomas Jefferson

Now I realize that people that read that quote will interpret it differently than others. For me, its meaning is quite clear. It means that we must from time to time take a step back and look at the direction our country is going and correct the course. Not that that is likely to happen. You see, just like the fact that people don’t talk like our forefathers used to, they don’t act like they did. No I’m not talking about the tone, cadence or even the actual words used. I’m talking about what was being talked about. Today our so called leaders are more concerned about what they think is right or how they think that things should be. Gone are the men and women that thought and acted on what they thought was best for the country as a whole. Go back and time as tell Mr. Jefferson that he could not grow hemp, or that he could not ride in his carriage or horse without being tied onto it. He would likely as not laugh at you. Why? Because it isn’t the governments job to tell you what to do or how to do it. Yet that is what is going on. We are being legislated to death. Why? Well how about that they are looking to justify their jobs by making it look like they are doing something. Further still they are trying to make it seem that it is for your safety. Riddle me this. How safe are you making it for me now that you made it almost impossible for me to legally own a hand gun and protect me and mine from the gang that has been doing home invasion near my neighborhood? Don’t worry, call the police. Lol, the police don’t prevent crime, they investigate afterwards. Now how is that making me safe?

” The strongest reason or the people to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government”- again Thomas Jefferson

Which leads us to him quoting Cesare Beccaria,

” Laws that forbid the carrying of arms… Disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes… Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man.”

Wow. I still get goose bumps when I hear that. Let me leave you with one last quote from Mr. Jefferson:

” The policy of the American government is to leave their citizens free, neither restraining nor aiding them in their pursuits.”
